Best Places To Spend The Night In The Lake District.

Nestled in the North-West of England is the world-renowned Lake District. A hub of outdoor activities and stunning scenery, the Lake District provides adventures for anybody, no matter your itch to scratch. Whether you like to get back to nature with a minimalist escapade to a luxury Glamping Pod, or if you’d rather dine in style in one of the many amazing eateries that Cumbria has to offer, you’ll find it all here. But, where is the best place to spend the night in the Lake District? This is the question we aim to answer.

Below, we have listed some of our favourite recommendations for Lake District accommodation, where not only will you find an amazing night’s sleep, but we also think you will be able to take advantage of the many other opportunities on offer (including the famed 214 Wainwrights which will definitely get a nod throughout this list);

The Damson Dene Hotel- Lyth Valley.

Damson Dene – Lake District Hotel near to Lake Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere

After an extensive re-fit back in 2019, The Damson Dene hotel is located in one of Cumbria’s best kept secrets, the Lyth Valley. A perfect balance of being remote enough to avoid the bulk of tourism, but being close enough to the towns of Ambleside and Windermere that various amenities are on offer, the Damson Dene offers you a truly authentic Lake District experience.

With a multitude of offerings inside the hotel itself, including swimming pools, spa treatments and guest lounge, the hotel also makes a great location to explore the areas of Windemere and the South Lakes. Numerous easy scenic walks are nearby such as the famed Orrest Head (made famous by Lake District Legend Alfred Wainwright. MBE) and the truly fantastic Gummers Howe, you can easily gain a taste of the Lake District, and Windermere, without having to venture far from your door. With 57 en-quite rooms on offer, you will be sure to find an opportunity for a fantastic weekend stay.

Lowfield House- Little Langdale.

For those that really want to enjoy the feeling of isolation that the Lakes have to offer, few places are better than the little village of Little Langdale. Far away from the hustle and bustle of Windermere, tucked away in the depths of the central Lake District you find the amazing property of Lowfield House. With potentially one of, if not the, best views from the property on this list, you have the privilege of enjoying the spectacular views of Little Langdale valley from your own back garden (with your own private hot tub, how fab!)

With the famed Langdale’s only just a short drive away, you and your family can use this as the ultimate get away to tackle some of the Lake District’s most renowned peaks such as the Old Man of Coniston and, more predictably noting your location, the Langdale Pikes. The only downside (or upside depending on how you look at it) is that this fantastic property has the opportunity to take advantage of 4 King Size Bedrooms and 1 Twin that all need to be filled to make full use of the property, so make sure you get on with hounding your friends and family together for a trip of a lifetime!

Lastly, I’d also recommend a trip to the notorious Old Dungeon Ghyll which is only a short drive away, where you have the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the best-known climbers and adventurers in the world all under one roof. An opportunity not to be missed!

The Apartments-Coniston.

Self Catering Holidays In The Lake District At The Apartments Coniston

With Wainwright baggers and hikers in mind, the Apartments in Coniston offer the perfect retreat after a day of tackling the fells. The self-catering accommodation goes to great lengths to ensure a comfortable nights stay, all within the cosiness and privacy of your own apartment. Ideally located on the North-West side of Coniston Water (the Lake District’s third largest body of water*) you find a much quieter waterside experience than that which you’d find on the shores of Lake Windermere. This allows for a much more serene experience while also enjoying the views across the water to Grizedale Forest.

If you fancy a trip away filled with adventure, the Apartments just might be the location for you. Zip-Lining and Mountain Biking through Grizedale Forest, Kayaking along the tranquillity of Coniston Water or even just enjoying a coffee and cake at the delightful Bluebird Café, the village of Coniston has plenty on offer. 5 spacious apartments await your visit, with all your requirements you could ever want included in your stay.

Beck Allens Guest House-Grasmere

Nothing says more classic Lake district than Wordsworth Country, the quaint village of Grasmere. Steeped in History, the area centrally located in the heart of the Lake District surrounds itself in the fells of the Lakes with the Fairfield Horseshoe to the North and the modest Loughrigg fell to the south. With this in mind, where better to visit than Beck Allens Guest House, right on the River Rothay. With the peaceful river flowing right past your window and the world-renowned Grasmere Gingerbread just a few steps away, a certain calmness can’t help but overwhelm you as you explore the beauty that is Grasmere Village. Visitors, at the minimum, have to pass by Wordsworth Grave, or visit Rydal Hall where you can bask in the gorgeous gardens and feel the history that surrounds the place. If history is your interest, there are fewer places more steeped in it than Grasmere.

With tea and coffee waiting for you upon arrival, what else could you wish for as you sip your night time nectar and delight at the thought of the amazing night’s sleep ahead of you.

For the Trip Home-Glamping at Wenningdale Lesiure- Bentham.

GLAMPING – Wenningdale Escapes

After an intense weekend of hiking and exploring the Lake District, sometimes you can just need one more night away before you ease yourself back into the reality of every day life. This is where we recommend an over-night stop at the amazingly scenic Glamping Pods of Wenningdale Leisure, just outside the Lake District in the sistering Yorkshire Dales. Conveniently situated in the vast grounds of Bentham Golf Course, you can enjoy an afternoon of tea and golf before continuing on your travels, whichever direction that may be.

With Glamping pods you get the combination of luxury matched with a feeling of getting back to nature. With a sumptuous bed, and a view right across to the towering figure of Ingleborough, you can ask for little more as you feel connected to the surroundings in a way that normal accommodation just doesn’t enable.

Conclusion

The Lake District has so much to offer beyond the many things we have listed here so make sure to crack on with your research as we don’t doubt you will have a fantastic time here.
